Amalinda Savirani completed her bachelor's degree at UGM in 2000, her master's degree from the International School for Humanities and Social Science (IJHSS), Universiteit van Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and her PhD at the Amsterdam Institute on Social Research (AiSSR), Universiteit van Amsterdam. She wrote her dissertation "Business and Politics in Provincial Town in Indonesia, Case of Batik and Construction sector in Pekalongan, Central Java". Her research interests include the study of social movements in the urban sector, and labor with a political economy approach. Amalinda is currently the head of the S3 Political Science study program at the UGM Department of Politics and Government. She actively writes popular articles in The Jakarta Post, The Conversation, and New Mandala. His most recent scholarly publication was published by the Journal of Currrent Southeast Asia Affairs (2018) entitled "Adversarial Linkage: the Urban Poor Politics and Electoral Politics in Indonesia", (with Ed Aspinall). He edited a book on democracy surveys, with Prof. Olle Törnquist, entitled Reclaiming State. Overcoming Problems of Democracy in Indonesia. (PolGov, 2016).
