This comparative research examines three areas of inquiry: 1) tracing the historically shaped political-economy contradictions that generate temporarily moments of coherence and incoherence in movements’ expressions of grievances; 2) mapping the political expressions mobilised by alternative labour groups, including independent unions, worker communities, and youth collectives that articulate the interests of vulnerable middle-class and working-class constituencies, 3) analysing the temporal moments which expressions are articulated, re-articulated, and de-articulated, producing recurring cycles of coherence and incoherence within social movements.
