Dr. Ariane Utomo is a social demographer and Senior Lecturer in Demography and Population Geography at the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Melbourne. Her work contributes to understanding demographic change and social transformations in Indonesia and the broader region.
Her research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the intersections of gender, education, and labour force participation. She also examines issues related to ageing and migration, as well as marriage, family change, and transitions to adulthood. Through these themes, her work highlights how demographic shifts are shaped by evolving socio-economic conditions, institutional arrangements, and cultural norms.
