Asia Research Centre, Universitas Indonesia (ARC UI) is an inter-disciplinary research centre that aims to strengthen governance and social resilience, be it global, regional, national, or local, through comparative analysis developed from collaborative research excellence
Welcome
Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia, the third largest democracy in the world and is home to the largest population in the region. However, its potential has not been matched with a robust tradition of scholarship that is able to compete with that of neighbouring countries. Indonesia is even considered one of the countries least effective in explaining itself to the world. Not surprisingly, it lacks a reputation for producing social science publications that utilises cutting-edge, comparative approaches.
IN THE ASIAN REGION, SCHOLARSHIP ABOUT INDONESIA IS MORE EFFECTIVELY DEVELOPED FROM OUTSIDE OF INDONESIA
Asia Research Centre, Universitas Indonesia was established to address this issue. ARC UI is a hub between disciplines, faculties and universities in Asia within the social sciences and humanities. It aims to become an academically rigorous organisation that nurtures deep inter-disciplinary research, which can be scaled up across the whole university and engage in high level international collaborations.
